SCVA (Sugarloaf & CVA) Competition Programs

Freestyle (Ages 8-19)

If skiing moguls and jumping is your idea of fun, the SCVA (Sugarloaf and CVA) Freestyle Program is for you! This program is one of the oldest and most successful in the country. No prior freestyle training is necessary & any junior skier can join the program. The emphasis is on having fun while getting a solid technical foundation in skiing and learning freestyle mogul skiing and aerials. All the groups will work on technical skiing, mogul skiing and aerials in the terrain park and our world-class jump site. Freestylers are put into age and ability specific groups in which coaches provide individualized direction and feedback. Participants have the opportunity to compete in Junior Bump League events at sugarloaf, as well as USSA sanctioned events throughout the East. Accomplished program competitors may quality for national level competitions.

Alpine (Ages 8-19)

Do you feel the need for speed? Is running gates your passion? If so, then the SCVA Alpine Program is for you. This program is open to all levels. Racers are put into groups according to age and technical ability. Emphasis is on having fun while developing a strong technical skiing and racing base in slalom and giant slalom by spending time on focused free-skiing and gate training. Competitors of an appropriate age may also receive training in super-G and downhill. Individual direction and feedback are provided by an experienced coaching staff as the progression from intra-mountain race series to USSA state, regional and national levels takes place.

Snowboarding (Ages 8-19)

The legendary CVA snowboard program has created an all-inclusive environment for SCVA athletes to hone their snowboarding skills on the weekends.  Mirrored after CVA’s mission to provide opportunities for excellence, the SCVA program will keep the coach to athlete ratios small (6-8:1,) and provide all of the technical and tactical knowledge needed to be ready for the next big USASA contest.

SCVA coaches will keep the fun flowing while introducing a variety of competition skills.  Athletes will work on air awareness, the development of new rail/jump/pipe tricks, and all of the foundation skills needed to compete in GS, SL, and SBX. Judging formats, USASA rules and an overall appreciation of snowboarding and on hill awareness will also be addressed.
