Sugarloaf is proud to host headlining act, Deer Tick, the band that’s been both accurately and inaccurately labeled just about everything this side of Top 40. Deer Tick is true-to-form rock-n-roll. Scratch that, true-to-form is not Deer Tick’s style. Let’s start over…

Naturally, after so many years of critics praising [and making fun of] them for their "folk" and "country" sounds and hardly ever mentioning the fact that they’ve also recorded virtually dozens of other kinds of music, the band plays a live set that is (which has gained some notoriety): raw, loud, heartfelt, and completely uninterested in whatever the hell the rest of the music industry is up to.

Distorted guitars are aplenty, guitarist Ian O’Neil and drummer Dennis Ryan take lead vocal duties, man, you can practically smell the sweat and the beer! You may even see a guitar or two break somewhere within the show!

The songs are there. The delivery is in your face. There’s no magic. There’s no hiding the fact that Deer Tick is just five regular dudes hailing from Rhode Island. This show is bound to rattle your thoughts, and it may cause you and your friends to jump around and dance, but at least it's a different sort of concert for Sugarloaf, and Maine, right?

Adam Ezra Group, Opening Act for Deer Tick:

The Adam Ezra Group, opening for Deer Tick, is one of Boston's leading acoustic rock bands. AEG is a dynamic roots/rock band whose unique mix of folk, pop and rock sound, perfectly combines Ezra's passion for smart, well written lyrics and the bands amazing musicianship. Bringing their sound together with rich, hook laden melodies, the band's energetic performance creates a buzz everywhere they play. Over the past 8 years the band has had a consistent tour schedule and sold out shows in the Northeast, while rapidly building their fan base nationwide. The band's energy on stage is becoming legendary, as Adam and the band ignite the stage with a power that has been compared to that of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.

When Donavon Frankenreiter was 10 years old, he got his first surfboard. Six years later, he picked up his first guitar. It was the beginning of a wildly creative journey: His improvisational twin obsessions have carried him around the globe and into his fans' hearts. Fresh off the release of his fourth album, Glow, the 37-year-old singer/songwriter/pro surfer admits he still thrives on simply taking the plunge. "We don't have a set show, if we did, I would go crazy," he says. "You never know what's going to happen. I love that element of surprise with music and surfing — you never catch the same wave twice."

"The first thing I do is grab a surfboard or guitar if I'm depressed or bummed — I think that's why a lot of my songs are positive and uplifting, because those two things make me happy. I've really enjoyed living in the moment, enjoying what's going on right now," he says. The disc's title track captures this sentiment perfectly: Riding a sweet, syncopated acoustic strum, the song swells into a beautiful chorus as Frankenreiter sings, "I want to see you glow/I want to see your daylight shining all around your heart."

"The sounds are something I've never had on my records, ever," Frankenreiter says, adding he just played his acoustic guitar on the album and was pleasantly surprised by the addition of echo and delay on the disc's electric guitars.

But in true Donavon Frankenreiter fashion, there's little room for stress on Glow. The album's 10 tracks are the perfect antidote to trying times: warm, organic, and overwhelmingly hopeful. And Frankenreiter is ready to bring the new tracks to his international fanbase as he continues to crisscross the globe on more surfing and musical adventures. "If there's anything I learned, it's that you really gotta be yourself," he says, reflecting on his career. "You can't fool people in music if you want to stick around for a long time."

Dawn Mitschele, opening act for Donavon Frankenreiter:

Dawn Mitschele (pronounced MITCH-el-EE) was born and raised in New Jersey. She taught herself how to play [guitar] in highschool, and then carried her guitar along with her to college in New York and in Europe, gathering up all the life and love experiences that are now embedded deep in her songs.  After returning home from Europe, she moved to San Diego and was soon a part of that burgeoning scene that has produced Jewel and Jason Mraz.

Her most recent album, In The Moonlight,  features songs that will be heard on national TV shows in the coming months. She spend most of last October and November recording a five-song EP set for her release in 2012, with the EP's first single "This Time Next Year" put out in December for the actual New Year.

Dawn began last summer organizing a "Farm To Table" benefit, which featured a performance by Jason Mraz and was highlighted by a Dawn and Jason duet, which a fan posted on YouTube. The proceeds went to the San Diego Organic Farmers. July and August found Dawn touring Europe and the Pacific Northwest, dividing her performances evenly among festivals and clubs.

Dawn keeps in touch with her fans through her enormously popular "LoVE Letter" emails, which usually include a new tune, some recent experiences and words of inspiration to everyone, enouraging them to chase their own dreams. You can join in by signing up at her website: www.dawnmitschele.com
