Explore all that the area has to offer with Master Maine Guide Bonnie Holding, who has been guiding clients through the mountains of Maine for decades. Enjoy a sunrise canoe trip and spot wildlife in its natural environment, learn to fly fish in Maine's acclaimed streams and rivers, or relax with a wilderness cookout high in the mountains.

Sugarloaf will offer the following programs throughout the summer:

  • Sunrise Canoe Trip on the North Branch of the Dead River
    Experience a Maine sunrise on the gentle waters of the North Branch of the Dead River. Enjoy a breakfast on the river and spot wildlife in its natural environment.

  • Canoe Trip and Rustic Maine Lunch
    Experience a rustic Maine lunch on the South Branch of the Dead River. Spot wildlife in its natural environment and relax in this prisitine setting. Bring your swimsuit and fly rod - this trip is all about getting outside!
  • Bullwinkles Wilderness Cookout
    Take a ride up the mountain to Bullwinkles and explore the natural beauty of Sugarloaf in the summer while Bonnie prepares a dinner with your choice of steak or fresh Maine lobster.
  • Fly Fishing School
    Learn to cast, tie knots, and tie flies with Bonnie, who has been guiding guests and fishing western Maine's heralded waters for years.

  • Pontoon Boat Tours
    Learn the fascinating history of Flagstaff Lake and the lost village of Flagstaff from the comfort of a pontoon boat. Local guide Jeff Hinman will help you spot loons and bald eagles in their natural habitat.
  • Evening Moose Cruises
    No trip to into the mountains of Maine would be complete without spotting one of our favorite forest friends. Our local moose expert will take you to the favorite spots of these curious and fascinating woodland creatures.

About Bonnie:
Bonnie Holding of Coplin Plantation has lived and worked in the Sugarloaf area for the past 22 years and has been a Registered Maine Guide for more than 20 years. She has led the Tim Pond Fly Fishing School in Eustis for the past 22 years, and has taught fly fishing to clients in Maine, New Hampshire, New York, and Minnesota. In 2005 Outdoor Life magazine recognized Bonnie as one of the top guides in North America.

Bonnie is active in a number of programs, including Becoming an Outdoors Woman (BOW), and Casting for Recovery, an educational retreat and fly fishing weekend for breast cancer survivors, acting as the retreat leader for the past 10 years.

During the winter Bonnie owns and operates GoldSmith Gallery, an art gallery and jewelry store in Sugarloaf's Village West.
